FAQ

How is Vera Salt different from regular sea salt?
Vera Salt stands apart in purity, taste, and transparency. Sourced from a pristine natural spring rather than the ocean, it’s free from the microplastics and pollutants often found in sea salts.
Because it’s unrefined and untouched by additives, Vera Salt has a naturally clean, smooth taste that enhances food without any harsh or bitter notes.
Every batch is third-party tested for purity, and we proudly share these results on our Lab Testing page as part of our commitment to transparency.
Is Vera Salt microplastic-free and heavy-metal tested?
Yes. Every batch is independently tested for microplastics and heavy metals. Vera Salt is free from microplastics and all test results are posted publicly on our Lab Testing page.
How is Vera Salt microplastic free?
Vera Salt is microplastic free because of where and how it’s sourced. Our salt comes from a pristine underground spring in the Spanish foothills, far from industrial runoff and ocean pollution where microplastics are most commonly found.
Since it’s spring-sourced rather than sea-sourced, it remains naturally protected from contamination. Every batch is lab-tested for purity, which you can view on our Lab Testing page.
Where is Vera Salt sourced from?
Our one of a kind salt is sourced from the foothills of Spain at over 2000 feet above sea level. This pristine location, far from human activity and pollution, hosts an underground aquifer that feeds a brine spring, rich in natural minerals like calcium, potassium, and magnesium. We chose to source from this pristine saline spring due to its location, away from human pollution and contamination.
Does Vera Salt contain trace minerals?
Yes. Our salt is natural and unrefined, so it retains its native trace minerals like magnesium, calcium, and potassium, among others. You can view all our mineral and other analysis on our Lab Testing page.
Why does Vera Salt sometimes clump?
Because we don’t use anti-caking agents or additives, our salt retains its natural minerals and moisture. This can cause occasional clumping, especially in humid environments, and is actually a sign of purity and minimal processing. To help prevent it, store your salt in a cool, dry place or use a salt cellar for easier access.
Is Vera Salt iodized?
No, Vera Salt is completely natural and unrefined. We don’t add iodine or any other ingredients. Any iodine present is naturally occurring in trace amounts.
Packaging
What do you use for product packaging?
Our inner bag is made from a potato starch biopolymer. It looks like plastic, but it is plant based, compostable, and biodegradable. Our jars are glass and boxes are recyclable paper.
How is Vera Salt's inner bag packaging plastic-free?
We’re proud to use packaging that’s 100% plastic-free. The inner bag, which can look like plastic, is actually made from potato starch, as noted on the side of the box. It’s biodegradable, compostable, and a sustainable alternative to traditional plastics. This material is a smart compromise as it performs like plastic but is made from plant sources instead of industrial oil byproducts.
Do you have products available that are packaged in glass?
Yes. Our Flake Salt comes in a glass jar. Our Spring Salt Grinder as well as Salt & Pepper Grinder also use a glass body with a ceramic mechanism.
Why can't I get my grinder to work?
Before using your grinder for the first time, twist off the top and remove the inner safety seal beneath the lid. Once the seal is removed, reattach the grinder head and it should work smoothly. If the crystals ever get bridged or stuck, a quick tap on the bottom usually does the trick.
Is the grinder plastic?
The grinder has a ceramic grinding mechanism. The outer head that houses the mechanism is plastic so the two pieces can rotate smoothly, but the grinding surfaces that contact the salt are 100% ceramic. The glass body grinder is reusable and refillable up to 4 times with our Salt Crystal Refill.
